In this blog, I am gonna share my reading experience of a book written by a Japanese author… Yes, it is none other than HARUKI MURAKAMI. He is the most celebrated author for his different perspective on the stories which gave him success in his writing.
ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Haruki Murakami, a Japanese writer. His books and stories have been sold as a best seller in his nation as well as internationally and his stories have been translated into 50 languages. Also, his books have turned to movies. Some of his notable works are “KAFKA ON THE SHORE”, “NORWEGIAN WOODS”, “A WILD SHEEP CHASE”, “SPUTNIK SWEETHEART”, etc.
Therefore, in this blog, we are going to see one of his best short stories, “BIRTHDAY GIRL”, originally written in Japanese translated by Fay Rubin.
HOW THE BOOK REACHED ME?
So, it was on my birthday this book came in a mail as a gift. I was very excited to see the title of the book ‘BIRTHDAY GIRL’ it indicates me, my status on that particular day because I was birthday girl myself. Since the book is very short and quick I read on the same day to find what it holds, and also, this is my very first book of this author. I should definitely thank the sender for this book. Thank you so much for sending a perfect gift on my birthday and I loved it.
ABOUT THE BOOK – BIRTHDAY GIRL.
One rainy Tokyo night, a waitress’s uneventful twentieth birthday takes a strange and fateful turn when she’s asked to deliver dinner to the restaurant’s reclusive owner. When he came to know that day was her birthday, he wishes,
“May you live a rich and fruitful life and there be nothing to cast dark shadows”
and agrees to grant her a wish. To know what she wished for, read this book. Honestly speaking, though it was a bit confusing for me I read the book a couple of times to get the view of the narrator.
